Your living, interactive, personal connection to God makes your faith bulletproof. Your faith will flow from your current of communion with God. It is this kind of connection with God that Paul is talking about in this passage and that God is challenging us about today.

God wants you to not only have a special time with Him in His word and prayer each day; He also wants you to learn the practice of communicating with Him throughout the day. Keep your awareness of the presence of God constant and you never need to worry that your faith might falter at the critical moment.

If you are able to think while doing other things, then you are also able to pray while doing other things. Why not work on it today? Develop the habit of constant fellowship with God.

Compared With Eternity

As you remind yourself that your troubles are only momentary and confess your trust and hope in Him, you will see His hand moving in your life. Focus on that eternal glory every day. As you do, you’ll move forward in victory and experience all He has for you!

To read the Bible one needs a "quiet time." Christian students often ask, "How do you maintain your spiritual high? What do you do on a daily basis?" I tell them about my "quiet time." Some days it is in the early—sometimes late—morning, sometimes evening. Without it, my Christian life would be a wilderness.

Isaiah said, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) So gain the strength of eagles, as the prophet suggested. Set a time each day when you can spend a few minutes alone with God.

Conformed Or Transformed

Ambassadors Of Peace

He works through people in your life, through your time in His word, through your circumstances, through your prayer times. Don’t ignore the things that God wants to use in your life. We too can rejoice in our trials, have surefooted confidence in God, and live on the heights of His sovereignty.

Stay The Course

The Greatest Instruction Manual

It's rewarding to get a good return on an investment. In business we invest money, time, and people resources into promoting a product and service in hopes of a return. We make financial investments in hopes we can gain a return on our money invested. The apostle Paul understood another kind of investment. It was an investment in the spiritual lives of people.

One day I received this note from a friend into whom I had made an investment: "You have had a tremendous influence on my life. For that, I will be forever grateful and love you as well." Sometimes we don't realize the difference we can make in another life. Until one day, you receive a note like this one.

In the marketplace we can often get very focused on the projects we are called to promote and gain a return on. However, we each need to be making an investment in other people as well.

Divine Appetite

Test of Faithfulness

The goal of faithfulness is not that we will do work for God, but that He will be free to do His work through us. God calls us to His service and places tremendous responsibilities on us. He expects no complaining on our part and offers no explanation on His part. "The Lord said to Job, 'Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer!'" (Job 40:1-2)

In the spiritual realm we deal with spiritual harassment from Satan and his legions. The Bible says "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)

It is important to recognize when we are coming against these forces. Satan attempts to distract us from our calling and destiny in life. We often trivialize the reality of the spirit realm of evil.

Paul tells us we must set our minds to deal with the spiritual realm of evil when it impacts our lives. The next time you feel obstacles have been placed in your life designed to distract you from your God-ordained mission, remember Paul's words and stand firm in Christ.

God's Holy Word

Hard Work

Do whatever it takes during dire times to create compelling distinction in your work. Indeed, hard work is supported by the handprints of heaven.

Focus On God

Perseverance

Perseverance is a refusal to quit. It's falling down 100 times and getting back up 100 times. Perseverance is the key to every great accomplishment because nothing of lasting value has ever been achieved without it.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint. The race doesn't go to the swiftest, but to those who don't give up. We need endurance in order to deal with the stress of adversity. When going through adversity, watch out for pessimists, blamers and toxic personalities. Beware of people who try to talk you out of your dreams and goals. Spend time with optimists and encouragers. Seek out people of faith.

Safe In His Dwelling

He "happened" to find some fellow Christians from India—and in talking to them he heard about a ministry they were involved with. In fact, because John’s interests matched his new friends’ ministry, they invited him to India to participate in a short-term project.

How often do we experience delays, changes of plans, and redirections and treat them as intrusions? It could be that God is detouring us so we can do something different or new for Him. Often God will use what we consider inconveniences in our lives as divine appointments.

I didn't like the loss of confidence and the fears of an unknown future, but sometimes, that's the only way God can begin to shape us and begin to work in our lives to where we have Godly wisdom.

Nobody exemplifies Godly wisdom like Jesus. So, what this tells us is, if you and I will choose to trust Jesus and follow Jesus and imitate Jesus in spirit and in character, then especially during trials, we will begin to experience Godly wisdom. So, look to Jesus, the perfect embodiment of Godly wisdom. It may not be easy, but Godly wisdom is worth it!

A Door Of Opportunity

God will oppose that misplaced allegiance. You’ll never find the peace, meaning, fulfilment and wholeness that you seek until you find it in God. But when you truly build your life around God, He’ll meet every need.

Don't Give Up

We can have hope because Christ Jesus is our Savior. He is our joy. He is our peace. He is our fulfillment. If we try to get our joy from our feelings or from our possessions, then we will be constantly disappointed. However, if we find our joy in the Lord and in trusting in His Word, then we will experience hope—regardless of our circumstances.

Have you ever experienced the joy of the Lord? There comes a time when we must stop dwelling on our despair. We must stop giving in to the moaning and groaning that keeps us from experiencing the hope and the joy that God freely gives. Don’t give up. God is always with you.

Take Heart

By this time, you have probably figured out that life is not free of challenges. Difficulties and even tragedies are to be expected. As a matter of fact, Jesus told His disciples, "Take courage. There are many storms in this life. But take heart, I have overcome the storms and the world." (John 16:33)

Certain storms do come into our lives because of our own sin, but many storms occur when we're right in the middle of God's will. We're not doing anything wrong. We're doing what God wants us to do. Certainly, that was the case for the disciples. Jesus told them to get into the boat and row across the Sea of Galilee. They were obeying Jesus when they suddenly found themselves in a horrific storm. It was so bad they didn't even know if they'd survive. But, here is the important message from that event - they did survive. With the help of Jesus, they did survive.

Accept the fact that your life will not be a perfectly smooth ride. The road will sometimes have bumps and potholes and sharp turns. All roads do. Look upon these tragedies and difficulties as part of life. Turn to Jesus for guidance and He will lead you as you ride out your storms.

Preparation For Success

Nick and Davy thought it would be fun to explore deeper in the cave. When they saw their chance, they separated from the rest of their class and headed down a corridor that was roped off. They walked on through twisting and turning shafts until they were no longer sure how to get back. They stood in total darkness, feeling the cavern close in around them.

Just as they verged on panic, Davy looked down and noticed a fine, dim glow. Phosphorescent stone was embedded in the cave floor, and it cast off a dull shine. By following the path of light, the boys made it back to the safety of the well-lit shafts.

Darkness can close in around us quickly in this world today. It seems to be getting darker all the time. However, we are recipients of the light that cannot be put out and will never fade away. The Word of God will guide us through even the darkest times, and He will be close by to comfort us in times of trouble. Rely upon the light of the Lord.

Our True Calling

Driving home from work, I heard a radio advertisement that got my attention. It was for a computer program that checks e-mails as they are written. I was familiar with "spell check" and "grammar check" programs, but this was different. This was "tone check." The software monitors the tone and wording of e-mails to make certain they are not overly aggressive, unkind, or mean-spirited.

As I listened to the announcer describe the features of this software, I wondered what it would be like to have something like that for my mouth. How many times have I reacted harshly instead of listening first—and later regretted the words I had spoken? Certainly a tone check would have protected me from responding so foolishly.

Paul saw the need for us as believers to check our speech—especially when talking to those who are not Christians. He said, "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." (Colossians 4:6)

God's Love

God does not want a one-sided relationship with us. He did not send His own Son to die a painful death on the cross for us in order for us to merely accept His forgiveness and continue our lives without Him. He did not adopt us as His children only to receive the occasional visit in return. He wants a daily, close, personal relationship with us. He wants to see us commit our time and hearts to Him in prayer. He wants us to talk to Him, praise Him, and worship Him every day.

The more we comprehend the magnitude of God's love for us, the more we will love Him back. The more time we spend in prayer learning about Him and developing a relationship with Him, the more our love for Him will grow. Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in how to show the immensity of God's love to the world.

Patience

Faith Over Feelings

Stress Remedy

Donald Norfolk, a British osteopath who has made a special study of stress, claims that it comes from two main causes: too little change, or too much change. To function at peak efficiency, we all need a certain amount of change. However, when changes come too fast for us to cope with, the personality is put under tremendous stress.

Dr. Thomas H. Holmes measures stress in terms of "units of change." For example, the death of a loved one measures 100 units, divorce 73 units, pregnancy 40 units, moving or altering a home 25 units, and Christmas 12 units.

His conclusion is that no one can handle more than 300 units of stress in a twelve- month period without suffering physically or emotionally during the next two years. Holmes, of course, was speaking from a strictly human point of view - with God "all things are possible." God can take a person overcome by stress and build into their lives insights which will enable them to live above and beyond its paralyzing grip.

Faith For Life

Transitions

Let Him make your joy complete. His joy is your strength. Your joy will rub off on others, and the revival of rejoicing in God will extend from one person to another.

Giving And Receiving Courage

He loved the rich and the poor—He loved all races—He loved male and female alike—He loved city folks and country dwellers—the educated and uneducated felt His fierce love—Kings and commoners did not escape His all-consuming compassion.

Once we discover His freeing truth, we are responsible to pay it forward by faith to other hungry hearts.

Wisdom Is Character

They defer to the needs of others, submit to authority, initiate empathy, bear the fruit of the Spirit, gather all the facts before making a decision and are genuine in their concerns. Wisdom and character are prayer partners in their faith journey.

Godly wisdom is keenly aware of the need to be consistent in its character. Our persuasive speech falls on
deaf ears when it does not have the backing of being a person of honesty and honor.

Wisdom gives you the platform to influence others into a relationship with Jesus. Thus, keep your character submitted to the character of Christ and you will remain wise.

Spiritual Armor And Weapons

We have a powerful and clever spiritual enemy, but God has given us armor and weapons that will enable us to defeat his attacks in our lives. Still, unless we use that armor and prepare for battle we will experience constant defeat in our spiritual lives. As Charles Spurgeon said, "We may sleep, but Satan does not."

The time to start praying and reading your Bible and going to Bible study is not when you are in a tough time and being tempted and attacked spiritually at every turn. For sure, run to God then; but God is speaking to you today through these verses and telling you that the key to victory is to be walking in close fellowship with Him before the attacks come.

Trust Him

The sports world knows how to tell who's been successful at accomplishing what they set out to do. You can spot the champion by the title they hold.

But God doesn't work that way. Titles, ranking, and position are not His barometers of success for us, nor should they be of ours. God has His own reasons for letting some taste the rewards of success and letting others continue to battle from beneath the pile.

God may allow someone to earn a promotion, not because they are by far the most qualified, but because this person has a weakness for power that needs exposing and correcting. God may allow a person to be overlooked at work, not because they don't possess what it takes to advance, but to make them better prepared for a greater opportunity down the line.

With God, the possibilities are always endless. Trust Him!

Face Time

Invest time in your relationship with the Almighty. Keep an eye on eternity. Furthermore, create face time with family, friends, and those you lead and serve. Trust and intimacy comes from looking into each other’s eyes. Faithfulness in face time leads to robust relationships. So, enjoy the joy of being with Jesus and friends.

Spiritual Maturity

What could possibly enable you to face trials with joy? The confidence that those trials are actually opportunities to mature spiritually.

There are some aspects of the Christian life that come instantaneously, like being born again, or the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life, or God anointing you for ministry in a specific situation. But there are also aspects of the Christian life for which there is no shortcut. Spiritual maturity is one of those.

There is no quick maturity in the Christian life. We want to just have a spectacular experience of the Holy Spirit and suddenly be mature, but it doesn’t work like that. Even being filled with the Spirit as a way of life is not the same as maturity. Maturity only comes from walking through the valleys, trusting in God’s purposes even when you can’t see them, and honoring Him all the way.

Replenish Your Strength

Weariness is a weapon Satan will use against you. When you're worn out, you're vulnerable. At that point temptation can lead to compromise, compromise to indulgence and indulgence to defeat. "...make no provision for the flesh." (Romans 13:14)

Don't give Satan an inch or he will take a mile. Your mind is where the real attack takes place. The Bible warns you to be careful, lest you become "wearied and faint in your minds." (Hebrews 12:3) Satan will wear you down in order to wipe you out, so you must take time to replenish your strength in God's presence.

When you commit yourself to doing God's will, God's way, in God's strength, you don't wear out. You're fulfilled, you stay in balance, and you overcome the stress and anxiety of this world. And that's how God wants you to live.

Trusting God

We can trust God because He knows what He is doing even when we don't! Sometimes we can't understand why God does certain things, or how He could love us and still allow something painful in our lives. But think about it—if we could understand everything about God and His actions, He wouldn't be God!

When pain comes into your life, you have a choice. You can say to God, "I will not trust until I understand!" Or you can acknowledge God's greatness and say, "I don't understand it Lord, but I trust You and Your good purpose in my life."

The fact that He is God automatically means that He is beyond our understanding and sometimes He will do things based on His wisdom and insight and absolute knowledge that we will not be able to understand. William Culbertson once said, "Keep praying, but be thankful that God's answers are wiser than your prayers!"

Defeat Negativity

As thoughtful servants of a loving God, we have no valid reason—and no legitimate excuse—to be negative. So, when we are tempted to be overly critical of others, or unfairly critical of ourselves, we must use the transforming power of God’s love to break the chains of negativity. We must defeat negativity before negativity defeats us.

We Will Not Fade

God seldom uses anyone unless He puts that person through the test of suffering and adversity. Jesus, you remember, began His ministry in the wilderness of temptation, but it culminated in a garden in Jerusalem on Easter morning.

Our lesser ministries, too, need the test of suffering. An ancient proverb says: "He who is born in the fire will not fade in the sun." If God lets us suffer in the fire of adversity, depend on it - He is only making sure that we will not fade in the sun of smaller difficulties.

Make no mistake about it - the world is watching how we Christians react to suffering. What do they see? People who struggle on in continual weakness, or people who have been made "strong at the broken places"?

Protection From Poor Decisions

Confirming major decisions through the counsel of others is one way God protects us from poor decisions. This process is designed to confirm direction for which we are seeking confirmation. Paul was sensitive not to get too heavy-handed in the confirmation process though. He offered advice to others but was not the enforcer of their decisions. "And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter." (2 Corinthians 8:10)

There have been times in my life where I have felt strongly about a certain issue only to receive feedback from those close to me which revealed that I was not accurate in my assessment of the situation. I have learned to yield in such situations, trusting that God is working through those in whom I am accountable.

The scriptures encourage us to seek advice and counsel from other Godly people who share the same values and goals that we have. "Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise." (Proverbs 19:20)

Peace of mind is another important confirmation requirement for making decisions. If you do not have peace about a decision, you should wait until God gives you peace. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)

Because He Promised

As you have your daily quiet time, acknowledge God—"God, I don’t want to just read words on the page; I want to hear from You. Please speak to me from Your Word."

As you go about the business of your day, acknowledge God—"Lord, I know that every person I encounter today is someone You want to minister to through me. Please show me how I can minister to this person spiritually right now in a way that will move them closer to You."

As you experience problems or hardship or deep personal struggles, acknowledge God—"Lord, I know that You are in control of all things, and so I know that You have allowed this difficulty into my life for a reason. I can’t see the reason but I will respond to this by trusting You and looking for ways to glorify You to others in the midst of this."
