Psalm 119:105 "Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path."
The Bible can be a powerful tool for defeating stress. George Mueller observed, "The vigor of our spiritual lives will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our lives and in our thoughts." As Christians, we are called upon to study God’s Holy Word and then apply it to our lives. When we do, we are blessed.
The Bible is a priceless gift, a tool for Christians to use as they share the Good News of their Savior, Christ Jesus. Too many Christians, however, keep their spiritual tool kits tightly closed and out of sight. Jonathan Edwards advised, "Be assiduous in reading the Holy Scriptures. This is the fountain whence all knowledge in divinity must be derived. Therefore let not this treasure lie by you neglected."
God’s Holy Word is, indeed, a priceless, one-of-a-kind treasure. Handle it with care, but, more importantly, handle it every day.

Unwise Choices
From: In Touch Ministries
1 Timothy 1:5 "The aim of this instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith."
Let your conscience be your guide. This bit of folk wisdom seems to make sense since our conscience is designed to help us discern right from wrong. However, people cannot always trust their internal radar to steer them correctly; this is the case particularly with unbelievers, who don’t have the Holy Spirit to reveal truth and offer guidance for wise decisions.
A trustworthy conscience is programmed with scriptural teaching. Believers build a stable and sensitive spiritual radar system by applying God’s truth to their lives. They are committed to thinking and acting in ways that honor and please the Lord.
A person with a reliable conscience will have a strong desire to obey God. They won’t settle for what feels right or looks good, but instead prayerfully seeks the Lord’s will. In other words, they do not rely solely on their conscience but incorporate all of the Holy Spirit’s tools into their daily life: Scripture, prayer, etc. Moreover, when their spiritual radar sounds the alarm, they are quick to draw back and reject unwise choices.

Sometimes It's Difficult
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Philippians 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
We live in a fast-paced, stress-inducing, anxiety-filled world that oftentimes seems to shift beneath our feet. Sometimes, trusting God is difficult, especially when we become caught up in the incessant demands of an anxious world.
When you feel stressed to the breaking point—and you will—return your thoughts to God’s love and God’s promises. And as you confront the challenges of everyday living, turn all of your concerns over to your Heavenly Father.
The same God who created the universe will comfort and guide you if you ask Him . . . so ask Him. Then watch in amazement as your anxieties melt into the warmth of His loving hands.

Holy Spirit Awareness
From: Boyd Bailey Ministries
John 16:13 "When He comes, the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you to all truth..."
God the Spirit reveals wisdom to those who love Him; "These are the things [wisdom] God has revealed to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God." (1 Corinthians 1:10) The Holy Spirit gives us discernment to know the difference between authentic wisdom from the Almighty and the wisdom of the world.
The Holy Spirit validates your belief in Jesus and confirms your commitment to Christ, by giving assurance to your soul. As you pray the Spirit ushers you into the presence of your heavenly Father, and with peaceful delight communes and communicates on your behalf. So, rest in the humble harness of the Holy Spirit and engage heaven’s help.
The Holy Spirit’s work is not meant to be mystical and weird, but practical and real. He provides comfort when you hurt, conviction when you stray and direction when you are unsure. Therefore, daily, enter into the fullness of the Spirit — be aware of what God has already given you by faith.

Let Not Your Hearts be Troubled
From: Today God Is First - Os Hillman
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline."
Fear is the enemy of faith. Fear is bondage. Satan wants us to live in bondage to the past and even the future, but God wants us to live in the freedom of His love and power in the present.
This is a spiritual battle, and it can only be won with spiritual weapons. We must replace our fear with the peace that surpasses understanding. As Jesus told His followers, "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
Fear is a natural response to obstacles, adversity and failure, but peace is the supernatural response that God gives us by His grace. Just as Jesus had authority over the wind and waves, He has authority over the storms in our lives. He has authority over our doubts, fears and shame.
Before going to the cross, Jesus told His disciples, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) Doubts, fear and shame are the weapons of Satan, but the peace of God shatters the weapons of Satan and sends our enemy fleeing. Appropriate the peace God has already provided for you today.

Perseverance, Not Perfection
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Proverbs 24:16 "For the just man falls seven times, and rises again."
The occasional disappointments and failures of life are inevitable. Such setbacks are simply the price that we must occasionally pay for our willingness to take risks as we follow our dreams. But even when we encounter bitter disappointments, we must never lose faith.
The reassuring words of Hebrews 10:36 remind us that when we persevere, we will eventually receive that which God has promised. What’s required is perseverance, not perfection.
When we encounter the inevitable difficulties and stresses of life here on earth, God stands ready to protect us. Our responsibility, of course, is to ask Him for protection. When we call upon Him in heartfelt prayer, He will answer—in His own time and according to His own plan—and He will heal us. And, while we are waiting for God’s plans to unfold and for His healing touch to restore us, we can be comforted in the knowledge that our Creator can overcome any obstacle, even if we cannot.

Complete Trust
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Psalm 18:30 "As for God, His way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection."
Are you willing to trust God completely, or are you living beneath a cloud of doubt and fear? God’s Word makes it clear: you should trust Him and His promises, and when you do, you can live courageously.
For thoughtful Christians, every day begins and ends with God’s Son and God’s promises. When we accept Christ into our hearts, God promises us the opportunity for earthly peace and spiritual abundance. But more importantly, God promises us the priceless gift of eternal life.
Are you tired, discouraged, fearful, worried or distressed? Be comforted and trust the promises that God has made to you. Be confident in God’s power. Be courageous and call upon God. He will protect you and then use you according to His purposes. Listen to the quiet voice of your Heavenly Father. Talk with Him; listen to Him; trust Him, and trust His promises. He is steadfast, and He is your Protector . . . forever.

Hope Begins With God
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
The hope that the world offers is fleeting and imperfect. The hope that God offers is unchanging, unshakable, and unending. It is no wonder, then, that when we seek security from worldly sources, our hopes are often dashed and our stresses are often increased. Thankfully, God has no such record of failure.
Where will you place your hopes today? Will you entrust your future to man or to God? Will you seek solace exclusively from fallible human beings, or will you place your hopes, first and foremost, in the trusting hands of your Creator? The decision is yours, and you must live with the results of the choice you make.
For thoughtful believers, hope begins with God. Period. So today, as you embark upon the next stage of your life’s journey, consider the words of the Psalmist: "You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my confidence." (71:5) Then, place your trust in the One who cannot be shaken.

Your Light
From: Ambassadors For Christ International - John North
Matthew 14,16 "You are the light of the world.... Your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your Heavenly Father."
God wants to reveal Himself to others through you! This is why God made us "in His image". He wants people to see Him in us. This is why He has put you in the family you are in, in your specific workplace, with your friendships, in your neighborhood, in that club you are a part of.
These are all places where people need to see God in you. Be aware that people are watching your life closely. It may not seem like it sometimes, but it's true. And they're evaluating your God by what they see of Him in you.
Representing God to people is a job that is way too big for us, but the great news is that Jesus will live His life through you, if you will invite Him to lead your life. You cannot live God's way of life, but Jesus can, and He is in you, waiting to do it.

Confidence Restored
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Hebrews 10:35 "Do not, then, surrender your confidence; it will have great reward."
Are you a confident, faithful believer, or do you live under a cloud of uncertainty and doubt? As a Christian, you have many reasons to be confident. After all, God is in His heaven; Christ has risen; and you are the recipient of God’s grace.
Despite these blessings, you may, from time to time, find yourself being tormented by stressful, destructive emotions—and you are certainly not alone. During turbulent times like these, even the most faithful Christians are overcome by occasional bouts of fear and doubt. And you are no different.
But even when you feel very distant from God, remember that God is never distant from you. When you sincerely seek His presence, He will touch your heart, calm your fears, and restore your confidence.

Trust Him
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Psalm 32:8 "I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk. I will counsel you, keeping My eye on you."
The Bible promises that God will guide you if you let Him. Your job, of course, is to let Him. But sometimes, you will be tempted to do otherwise. Sometimes, you’ll be tempted to go along with the crowd; other times, you’ll be tempted to do things your way, not God’s way. When you feel those temptations, resist them.
What will you allow to guide you through the coming day: your own desires (or, for that matter, the desires of your friends)? Or will you allow God to lead the way? The answer should be obvious. You should let God be your guide. When you entrust your life to Him completely and without reservation, God will give you the strength to meet any challenge, the courage to face any trial, and the wisdom to live in His righteousness.
So trust Him today and seek His guidance. When you do, your next step will be the right one.

Friends
From: Everyday Light Daily Devotions - Selwyn Hughes
Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
Sometimes I hear Christians say, "Why do I need friends? God is my friend - isn't that enough?" Such a statement demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of human relationships. Yes, we need God as our Friend - our close and most intimate Friend - but, as I once heard a little boy put it, "We need friends with skin on also."
My favorite definition of a friend is: "someone who knows all there is to know about you and loves you just the same." Looking back on my life, I can see how valuable my friends have been to me. Because I have felt safe with them, I have been able to reveal myself and in the revealing I have come to know myself in a way that I could never have done with a mere acquaintance.
Yes, we need God as our friend, but we need human friends also. This might be difficult for some to accept, but the more effectively we relate on a horizontal level with our human friends, the more effectively we will relate on a vertical level with our heavenly Friend.

The Clock Is Ticking
From: Bryant Wright Ministries
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope."
Do you hear the clock ticking? Time keeps moving on. It never stops for anyone - no matter how important you are. "You are a vapor that appears briefly and then vanishes." (James 4:14) We just can't find enough of that stuff. The late Jim Croce sang about bottling time. While we can't do that, one thing's for sure - God wants us to be good stewards of our time, but we'll never be able to until we're clear about our purpose for living.
The starting point is knowing why we're here. First, ask God to help you develop a life-purpose statement. It will take some time, but it's the best time you'll ever invest. Know why you're here.
Second, decide each day what's most important for you to do that day, and do it. By having a clear purpose and doing the most important thing each day, God can revolutionize your life and help you make the most of your time.

Faith In Action
From: Boyd Bailey Ministries
Joshua 7:10 "The Lord said to Joshua, 'Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?'"
There is a time to pray, and there is a time to act. There is a time to listen, and then there is a time to do. There is a time to weigh your options, and there is a time to choose what’s best at the time. Prayer gives you clarity on what needs to be done, and faith gives you courage to follow through.
If you know what to do but are still praying about it, you are hiding behind your prayer. There is no need to delay your decision anymore. God’s Spirit has made clear to you your next steps. Now is the time to act. It may be confronting a friend over their path of destruction. It may be resigning from your job. It may be breaking off a relationship. It may be a short-term mission trip overseas. It may be a phone call, an e-mail or an in-person visit seeking forgiveness.
Whatever God has already told you to do, do it quickly. There is no need to delay the inevitable. You are better off dealing with this sticky issue sooner than later. If you wait any longer, you will allow anger to permeate your thinking. Obsession with someone or something other than Christ will distract you from God’s best. Now is the time to stand up and move forward in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is faith in action!

Prayer Life
1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing."
Prayer is both an offensive and defensive weapon in the constant battles of spiritual warfare. Whether our need is to be extracted from a desperate situation or to prevent us from entering into one, prayer is the free, unlimited gift that God has made available to us to be used whenever we choose.
Prayer is a 24/7 direct line to God...never busy, and a guaranteed answer...sometimes yes, sometimes no and sometimes wait! Nothing seems to ignite my prayer life like reading and meditating on Holy Scripture...the complete and perfect manual for how to live your life according to God's purpose, give Him glory and fulfil your specific mission on earth!

Trapped By Discouragement
From: InTouch Ministries
Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose."
At some point everyone experiences dashed hopes. Living in discouragement will divide the mind, making it hard to focus on anything besides our pain. Then as anger becomes habitual, we’ll look for someone to blame—whether God, people around us, or ourself.
Frustration that isn’t handled well may develop into depression, which in turn can estrange us from others—people do not enjoy the company of someone who’s bitter and defeated. This isolation leads to a low self-esteem. Finally, in a fog of discouragement, we can make poor decisions based on crushed emotions instead of truth. Obviously, choosing this self-destructive path is not God’s best for our lives.
Though we’ll all face disappointment from time to time, believers are not to wallow in it. Instead, God wants us to trust Him with everything—even our unmet expectations and deepest sadnesses. Remember, there is divine purpose for everything He allows to touch His children’s lives (Rom. 8:28).

A Passion For God
From: Ambassadors For Christ International - John North
Deuteronomy 4:29 "But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul."
God has been chasing after you your whole life. He has been revealing Himself to you, letting you grow in your understanding of His true nature, exposing you to other people who really know and walk with Him, speaking to you through His word, encouraging you to take steps of faith, inviting you into an awesome walk with Him.
And God wants you to know today that He is waiting for you to also chase hard after Him. He is waiting for your love, waiting for you to spend time with Him and respond to His loving initiatives in your life. He is waiting for you to trust Him, to spend time in His word getting to know Him.
God is waiting for you to want Him with everything you have in you. "Here I stand knocking at the door. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and have supper with them." (Revelation 3:20)

Trust Your Hopes
From: New Life Daily Devotions - Steve Arterburn
Psalm 23:6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Are you an optimistic, hopeful, enthusiastic Christian? You should be. After all, as a believer, you have every reason to be optimistic about life here on earth and life eternal. As C. H. Spurgeon observed, "Our hope in Christ for the future is the mainstream of our joy."
But sometimes, you may find yourself pulled down by the inevitable demands and worries of life here on earth. If you find yourself discouraged, stressed, or both, then it’s time to take your concerns to God. When you do, He will lift your spirits and renew your strength.
Today, make this promise to yourself and keep it: vow to be a hope-filled Christian. Think optimistically about your life, your profession, your family, and your future. Trust your hopes, not your fears. Take time to celebrate God’s glorious creation. And then, when you’ve filled your heart with hope and gladness, share your optimism with others. They’ll be better for it, and so will you.

Gratitude
From: Powerpoint Daily Devotions
Ephesians 5:20 "Give thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Life tastes better when you say thanks. Psychologists have discovered that the healthiest emotion of all is the emotion of thanksgiving and gratitude. Hans Selye, who is noted as the father of stress studies said, "Gratitude produces more positive emotional energy than any other attitude in your life."
Gratitude will create joy in your life. It counteracts all of those damaging and destructive emotions that come your way. It’s the antidote for negative emotions like worry, anxiety, and fear because it is impossible to stay negative when you’re rejoicing and thanking God.
So live your life with an attitude of gratitude to God for all of his abundant blessings. When you do that, you’ll discover that the worries and stresses of this world will grow dimmer as God’s light shines in your life.

Independence day
From: Bryant Wright Ministries
1 Peter 2:16 "Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cloak for vice. In a word, live as servants of God."
The 4th of July is a time to reflect on the privileges and responsibilities of being an American. But this is not an easy day for America when it comes to values, the breakdown of the family, materialism, sexual immorality, crime.
I propose that our problem isn’t that Americans don’t care. People care passionately about what they feel is right but, therein lies the problem! We seem determined to do what we feel is right in our own eyes. But we are incapable of doing what is right on our own, no matter how well intentioned. This is why God gave us the Bible, to teach us His perfect ways.
We must stop trying to do what is right in our own eyes and begin doing what is right in God’s eyes. It’s the key to God blessing America. And that's something we all need to consistently pray for.

Mentoring...The Transfer of Wisdom
From: Boyd Bailey Ministries
2 Timothy 2:2 "The things which you have heard from me through many witnesses you must hand on to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well."
Your life is a stewardship. Owned by God, He expects us to invest in others. This is who we are as followers of Christ. Part of our life management is giving back to younger men and women in the form of mentoring. God can use our life experiences to help young men and women not to repeat bad history and to create good history. This is an important process of wisdom transference from one generation to the next. More important than the transfer of wealth is the transfer of wisdom.
By investing in someone through a mentoring relationship, think of the savings. You may save them from the heartache of a messed-up marriage. You may save them from a stupid business decision that leads to insolvency. You may save them from chronic indecision and insecurity because their identity resides somewhere else other than in Christ. Your mentoring is a cost-saving proposition. Everyone wins in the mentoring process, especially the mentor!
God is your model for mentoring. You are patient when you need to be patient. You confront when you need to confront. And, you ask multitudes of caring questions. Mentoring is not revealing all of the answers. Rather it is helping another through the process of discovery. A wise mentor will transfer humility, gratitude, teachableness, contentment, selflessness, forgiveness, discipline and grace. It is a character-driven model.
