Psalm 119:105 "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

 

When you don’t know what to do, which way to go, which opportunity to say ‘yes’ to—that’s when you need to ask God for guidance and search the Scriptures. In this passage God is showing us the experience of a man who has learned to walk with Him. That man is telling us that God’s Word has been a lamp to his feet and light to his path.

 

Listen to what he is telling you! Get on your knees, with your Bible open in front of you, and ask God to give you scriptural insight into your situation. He loves to speak through His Word into your life.

Precious Place Of Prayer

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 "Pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

 

There was a place in our Lord Jesus’ life that was very precious to Him—the place of prayer. It was here that He met with His Father. He not only spoke to His Father, He also listened. When you look at Jesus’ prayers they imply a never ceasing flow of communication between Him and God the Father.

The Apostle Paul learned this constant flow of prayer between Him and God too; and he wants us to know it as well. "Pray without ceasing," he says, and this is God’s challenge to us today as we search for His will in our lives. The place where you will hear from God is that place of constant prayer.

Work at it all day today. If you are looking for His leading in some area of your life, keep that issue in your thoughts and ask God to interact with you about it, and to direct your thoughts.

Trust God Enough To Wait

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding. In all things be mindful of Him and He will direct your paths."

 

An old French proverb says, "Patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet." How true that is! We hate not knowing which way we should go. It can make us feel insecure and tentative.

But today God is reminding you to trust Him. "Do not rely on your own understanding." Rather, learn to wait patiently for God’s leading. Put God first in your life, acknowledge Him in all your ways, and let Him work things out. God is the master of coordinating circumstances in the lives of those who trust Him, so that their lives move down the paths of His purposes.

Sometimes when you ask God to lead you, He will give you a clear inner sense of which way to go. Sometimes He will close all doors but the one He wants for you. Often He will help you see that there is a spiritual principle you need to apply to the situation that makes the way forward clear. But sometimes He just asks you to wait. That’s when trust becomes the issue!

Satisfies Our Every Need

Psalm 118:1 "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever."

 

Sometimes nothing can lift our hearts like the love of God. Friends abandon us. Colleagues try to bypass us. Even our families can disappoint us or fail to understand us. But God's love for us never changes.

Difficulties in life can certainly leave us feeling broken and confused. Many times, disappointments come in order to teach us more about the depths of God's love. In desperation, we turn to God. This is when we discover that only His love can truly lift us up and restore our sense of hope.

 

We may struggle to find another way around our problems, hoping that someone or something will bring relief, but nothing can help us outside the love of God. Only His love has the ability to satisfy our every need

Refuse To Become Bitter

Ephesians 4:31-32 "Get rid of all bitterness...Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you."

 

It's impossible to go through life without being hurt. Some folks will kiss you today and kick you tomorrow. Betrayal is something others do to you, but bitterness is something you do to yourself.

 

Sitting at supper with His disciples, Jesus said, "One of you will betray Me." (Mark 14:18) Shortly after that, Judas betrayed Him with a kiss. Jesus, as we know, refused to become bitter. That's because He knew Judas' kiss would usher Him into His destiny. Nor did Jesus turn His back on Peter when he denied Him. Instead, Peter was the only one He mentioned by name when He arranged to meet His disciples for breakfast following the resurrection.

 

Jesus saw Peter in the light of his potential, not his problems. What Peter did at one moment didn't keep Jesus from seeing what he would become when His grace touched Peter's life. And we must be that way too. This is why Paul wrote: "Get rid of all bitterness...Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you."

The Constitution Of Christianity

Psalm 19:8 "The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul."

 

The Bible is the constitution of Christianity. Just as the Constitution includes all who live under its stated domain, without exception, so the Bible includes all who live under its stated domain, without exception.

 

God’s laws for the spiritual world are found in the Bible. Whatever else there may be that tells us of God, it is more clearly told in the Bible. Nature in her laws tells us of God, but the message is not too clear. It tells us nothing of the love and grace of God.

 

Conscience, in our inmost being, does tell us of God, but the message is fragmentary. The only place we can find a clear, unmistakable message is in the Word of God, which we call the Bible

America's Blessing

Psalm 33:12 "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance "

God blesses a nation who humbly seeks Him. God blesses a nation because of its prayers, not its power. He blesses a nation because of its character, not its commerce. He blesses a nation because of its trust in Him, not its advanced technology. God blesses a nation who loves God and expresses that love in caring for the impoverished and diseased.

God blesses a nation because of His church, not the size of that nation’s economy. God blesses a nation when individuals gather corporately in vibrant Christian worship. The church is God’s means to awaken a nation. Nations who try to control the church lose God’s blessing. God’s blessing cannot be governed.

Christians are "salt and light" (Matthew 5:13-14) in the midst of decayed and darkened nations. When believers gather together in a bond of love they create a thirst for righteousness and shed light on the ways of the Lord.

1 Peter 2:16 "Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cloak for vice. In a word, live as servants of God."

The Bible warns us not to use our spiritual freedom for selfish purposes: "Do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." (Galatians 5:13)

Not everyone has political and religious freedom, but all believers in Christ have spiritual freedom. We must not use it as a weapon to impose our will on others but to display the glory of God’s will.

Today we thank and celebrate all of those who came before us and paid the price for our freedom. God bless them and God bless America!

Every Day Is A Gift

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

 

In a morning meeting I recently attended, the person who opened the gathering began by praying, "Lord, thanks for today. It is the beginning of a new day we have never seen before." Each day is a new opportunity, it will be filled with things we cannot anticipate or even prepare for. Therefore, it’s important that we recognize our limitations and lean heavily on God—intentionally choosing to live in His grace and strength rather than relying on our own resources.

The newness of each day is a gift worth celebrating. Perhaps this concept was what prompted the psalmist to declare, "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Of course, we face many unknowns today—and some could be difficult. But the treasure of each brand-new day is so special that Moses was led to write, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) Every new day is a precious gift. May we thankfully embrace each one with confident trust and humble celebration.

Spiritual Vitality

Psalm 119:105 "Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path."

 

It is not unusual for someone who becomes physically sick to lose their appetite. But if they're going to recover, they have to eat. The same is true when someone is sick spiritually. They lose their appetite for spiritual things. They lose their appetite for the Word of God.

At least three times in Psalm 119, the psalmist tells us that one of the ways God will revive you when you are spiritually weak is through His Word. In verse 25 he says, "My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your Word." In verse 107 he says, "I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your Word." And then in verse 154 he says it again, "Plead my cause and redeem me; revive me according to Your Word."

The more you feed on God's Word, the more you hunger for it. As you feed upon His Word, it will give you more life, it will give you more strength, and it will give you spiritual vitality.
