Giant Challenges

From: Byrant Wright Ministries

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Do you ever wonder why certain people rise to meet a great challenge and others don't? Have you heard the story of David and Goliath?

If ever there was a giant challenge, David found it in Goliath, a hardened warrior who was nine-and-a-half-feet tall and filled his enemies with terror. Yet David, just a teenage shepherd, was willing to take him on. His people thought he was crazy but he had faith in the Lord and remembered how God had strengthened him in the past.

He said, "When a lion or bear came and took a lamb from my flock, I went after it and struck the beast and killed it. The Lord who delivered me from the power of the lion and the bear will deliver me from this giant."

And He did. David slew Goliath. He faced a giant challenge and was victorious because he had been faithful day by day.

When the big public challenges come, we'll be ready if we're faithful to God in the various behind-the-scenes daily tasks. It's the faithfulness in the small things that is key to meeting life's giant challenges victoriously.

Mentors

From: Today God Is First - Os Hillman Ministries

Zechariah 8:23 "...Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you."

Few men or women of God have become extraordinary people of faith without the influence of mentors. A mentor is one who takes responsibility for the spiritual and, sometimes, physical care of another. It requires a commitment from the teacher and the student.

Elijah mentored Elisha. Elisha became one of the greatest prophets in the entire Bible. One of the primary reasons for this was Elisha's hunger. Elisha wanted a double portion of Elijah's spirit. It was this hunger that drove Elisha to be sold out to God's purposes for his life.

I have been privileged to have had many mentors throughout my spiritual life. In each stage of my maturity, God brought new mentors who had unique gifts that the previous mentor did not have. God has given me the hunger to desire a double portion of those positive attributes of my mentors. This desire is sorely missing among many today. I fail to see the hunger among many who could be used greatly in the Kingdom. Instead, the cares of this world distract them. It is an attitude of a la carte versus an attitude of pressing in to the full measure of what God might have for them.

Who are the people of God He has placed in your life? Are you learning from them? Are you seeking a double portion of their anointing? What prevents you from gaining from their wisdom and experience? God may have brought them into your life to prepare you to be a man or woman of God with great anointing. However, there is a time of training and waiting to prove out your own faith. Ask God today if there is someone He would have you mentor or be mentored by.

Wisdom In Investing And Saving

From: Bryant Wright Ministries

Matthew 6:19-20 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth...but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven."

Savings and investments seem to be on everybody's mind. There are news channels that, all day long, focus solely on the market. There are newspapers, magazines, and newsletters that deal exclusively with money and investments.

What is the right starting point on investing? God's Word tells us our starting point should be eternity. If all of our focus is on earthly investing, we are mighty shortsighted. Eternity is a lot longer than anything in this life.

Jesus tells us that when we invest in eternal treasure, we never lose it. It has returns that last forever. We should begin with investments in eternity even before we focus on investments for college, retirement, or in whatever else we're investing. This takes faith, but it proves to God where our hearts are--whether with Him or with our money.

Many men who see themselves as strong are absolutely gutless in this area. It takes a strong man to have this kind of faith. Wisdom in investing truly begins with the long-term view of eternity.

Integrity

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

Psalm 25:21 "Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for you, O Lord."

A cartoon in The New Yorker depicts two executives sitting in jail. One turns to the other and says, "And all along I thought our level of corruption fell well within community standards."

In a survey of 400 managers, 55 percent said they did not trust their top management. Will Rogers said, "People's minds are changed through observation, not argument. People do what people see."

89 percent of what we learn comes through visual stimulation, the remainder through audible stimulation. So it makes sense that the more people see your consistency, the greater their respect and loyalty will be. What they hear, they understand; what they see, they believe and follow! That's why David prayed, "Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for you, O Lord."

When integrity is the referee, your lips and your heart will be in agreement. Your beliefs will be mirrored by your conduct. There'll be no discrepancy between what you appear to be and what your family knows you are, whether in good times or bad.

John Maxwell says, "Integrity determines beforehand what you'll be regardless of the circumstances, persons involved or places of testing. Integrity is not only the referee between two desires, it's the 'decision maker' between being happy and being fragmented. It frees you to be a whole person no matter what comes your way." Socrates said, "The key to greatness is to be in reality, what we appear to be." He's right!

On The Offensive

From: Greg Laurie Ministries

Ephesians 6:17 “Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

During the Korean War, a unit known as Baker Company was separated from the regiment, and enemy forces were advancing on them. For several hours, no word came from Baker Company. Finally, radio contact was made, and when asked for a report of their situation, Baker Company replied: “The enemy is to the east of us. The enemy is to the west of us. The enemy is to the south of us. The enemy is to the north of us.” Then, after a brief pause, the voice continued, “And this time, we’re not going to let them escape.”

It seems that way in the life of the believer. The enemy is at every turn. Yet some Christians don’t realize that the Christian life is not a playground, but a battleground. They are oblivious to the fact that a war is raging. And in this war, they are either winning or losing.

In a battle, it's always better to be an aggressor rather than of a defender, because the defender is simply waiting for the enemy’s next attack, hoping he will survive. If we, as believers, are always defending, then the devil is in the superior position. But if we are attacking, then we are in the superior position. When the apostle Paul wrote about the armor of God in Ephesians 6, he mentioned one offensive weapon: “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (v. 17).

Make no mistake about it: there is authority and power in the Word of God. God’s Word sticks. God’s Word breaks through. God’s Word impacts. When the enemy has you surrounded, keep him on the defensive with the Word of God.

The Promise Land

From: Daily Disciple Ministries

Joshua 18:2-3 "But there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes which had not yet received their inheritance. Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: "How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?"

Joshua led the children of Israel into the Promise Land. He led them in battles against the existing nations. The Lord delivered the land and all of its goods into the hands of His people, just as He had promised. Now that the work was done, it was time to divide the land between the twelve tribes. But seven tribes hesitated to go forth and take their inheritance. The gift lay before them, so why the delay? Why did Joshua have to force them to go forward and take their gift?

Maybe they were afraid of being on their own for the first time. Maybe they were afraid of the unknown. Maybe they just did not know what to do with their own land.

What about us? How many times do we neglect to receive the gift that God is giving us? We pray and pray for something and then one day, God answers our prayer. But the answer involves stepping out in some way, maybe having to do it alone. We can see the answer clearly before us, but we hesitate to go forth. Maybe we are afraid, just as the Israelites were. Maybe we are more comfortable just praying for something instead of actually receiving it. Are we always ready for the change that can come when we pray for things?

I pray that I don't miss out on what God has for me. I pray for more faith when those fears creep into my thinking. I pray for wisdom to know how to pray for those things that will involve changes in my life.

Think about these verses today and how they apply to your life. Is there something you are neglecting to possess? God has a life of promise lands for each one of us. Don't let fear or hesitation keep you out of them.

Keep Pressing On

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

James 1:12 "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown."

Most successful people are usually just "hungrier and thirstier." What we desire - they pursue! Napoleon was born in abject poverty. In school his friends made fun of him. But he devoted himself to his books and excelled in his studies. Eventually he became the brightest student in the school. Before he was through he conquered most of the world. If a seedling tree has to fight its way up through stones and hard soil to get to sunlight and air, then wrestle with the storm and the frost to survive, its root system will be strong and its timber valuable.

Understand this: it's impossible to succeed without going through adversity. Impossible! If you're successful and haven't experienced adversity, you can be sure that someone else has experienced it for you. If you're experiencing it without succeeding, there's a good chance somebody else will succeed one day because of you. Either way, there's no success without adversity.

The true test of your character is - seeing what it takes to stop you! Dr. G. Campbell Morgan tells of a man whose shop was burned down in the great Chicago fire. The next morning he arrived at the ruins carrying a table, set it up in the middle of the charred debris and put up a big sign which read, "Everything lost except wife, children and hope - Business will resume as usual tomorrow morning!" And you need that same spirit!

A Reason For The Test

From: The Word For Today - Bod Gass Ministries

James 1:12 "Happy the man who holds out to the end through trial!"

We're always being tested. We're tested by major changes, delayed promises, impossible situations, unanswered prayers, undeserved criticism and seemingly senseless tragedies.

An important test is how you act when you don't feel God's presence. Hezekiah experienced this. Listen: "God withdrew… in order to test him and to see what was really in his heart" (2 Chronicles 32:31). Hezekiah had enjoyed close fellowship with God, but at a crucial point God left him alone to test his character, reveal his weakness and prepare him for greater blessing. Could that be what's happening with you?

When you understand that all of life is a test, you realize that nothing is insignificant. Every day is an important day, and every second a growth opportunity to deepen your character, demonstrate your love and depend more on God.

Are you in a time of testing? If so, rejoice. God never allows the test you face to be greater than the grace He provides. Listen: "He will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, He will give you the strength to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Every time you pass a test, God notices and makes plans to reward you. James writes, "Happy the man who holds out to the end through trial!" So hang in there, God will bring you through this test and make you stronger and wiser.

A Passion For God

From: Daily Disciple Ministries

1 Samuel 17:32-33 "Then David said to Saul, 'Let no man's heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.' "And Saul said to David, 'You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.'"

David is an illustration of someone who had passion, a passion for God. David's passion was clearly demonstrated when he faced Goliath. Where did David get such courage to even think he could defeat him? In reality, all of the odds were against David. He had no experience, no armor, no weapons, and no one came with him. Whom was he kidding?

But David had something far more powerful than physical stature, experience or weapons; he had faith in his God. His passion for God overcame his fears and strengthened his faith.

Do you ever feel like you are in the midst of a battle where the odds are stacked against you? Or maybe you see the giants, hear their taunts and decide to flee and hide out, as opposed to standing up to them? Today, we are all in a battle and there is one clear enemy. Make no mistake about this fact: "Your opponent the devil walks about like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)

Satan will use whatever tactics he can to get to us, to frighten us, and to keep us from fighting back. He will play tricks on our minds so that we see giants that are not real. He will deceive us into believing that we have no ability to win.

One of the best tools Satan has against us is fear. Fear keeps us from facing the giants. Fear keeps us from ever achieving victory because we are afraid to enter the battle. Fear becomes our own trap of despair, depression and disillusionment. So often, the battle takes place in our minds with giants conjured up in our thoughts, but we must understand that this is not God's will for us.

Where did David get his courage and his passion? He believed in God. He believed in all that he had been taught about God, as he had witnessed His faithfulness and protection in his own life. And on this day, he was willing to put his faith to the test.

Today is the day to face the giants in our lives. In faith we step out, stop running, stop hiding and stop believing the lies of the enemy, Satan. In faith, we face the enemy head on and we claim victory in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ. He has fought the battle and won, on our behalf, but we need to step out, stand up and sling the rock. Today is the day.

Building A Solid Foundation

From: Today God Is First - Os Hillman Ministries

Matthew 7:26 "But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand."

There were two kinds of people in the days of Jesus. Some heard the words that Jesus spoke and were awed by His wisdom and understanding but did nothing about what they heard. Others heard those words and acted on them. Jesus said that those who heard the words but failed to put them into practice were foolish and likened them to building a house on sand. How foolish, indeed, it would be to build a house on sand.

The person who followed what Jesus taught was a person who would be sure to weather life's storms.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock" (Matthew 7:24-25).

You never know how well your house is built until it is tested by the elements. Torrential rains reveal the quality of your roof. Wind and cold reveal how well your home is insulated. Heat and sun reveal the quality of your paint and siding. All these elements reveal whether a solid foundation has been laid to make your home a secure and lasting place to live.

Many of us find that we have given only lip service to God's commands. We are faced with the reality that our foundations are not strong enough to weather life's storms. How do we react when the trials come? Do we fret and worry? Do we take life into our hands? Do we respond inappropriately when we don't get what we want?

The Lord uses these times to help us recognize whether our foundations are sand or rock. Ask the Lord today if you have built on His rock. If so, you can be comforted to know that you can weather any storm that may come your way.

Open To New Ideas

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

Proverbs 18:15 "The intelligent man is always open to new ideas. In fact he looks for them."

One idea can change everything. Edison had one, and the world lit up. Bill Gates had one too, but when he went looking for investors, some of his big-money friends called his idea 'too risky'. Can you imagine how they feel now?

Good ideas are great. God ideas are even better! You see, what God initiates, He backs up with the resources of heaven. Paul said, "My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches" (Philippians 4:19). According to what? Imagine being empowered by God, and financed by The Bank of Heaven!

God's problem has never been a lack of ideas; it's finding people who'll leave their comfort zone and act on them - people like Abraham, who; "By faith… when called to go… went, even though he did not know where he was going." (Hebrews 11:8). And how did he end up? He was told, "All the families of the earth will be blessed through you" (Genesis 28:14).

Usually God gives us His ideas when (a) all of ours have failed, (b) we've laid aside our pre-conditions, and we're willing to do whatever He says, including being misunderstood by others, (c) we're willing to risk, and (d) we're committed to giving Him all the glory.

Think what one of God's ideas could do for your business this year! Or your ministry! Or your family! Listen, "What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that will I do" (Isaiah 46:11). God's already spoken certain things over your life. As you enter this year, seek Him and He'll reveal them to you.

Spiritual Longevity

From: Greg Laurie Ministries

Joshua 14:13–14 "So Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as an inheritance. Hebron still belongs to the descendants of Caleb . . . because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.”

Today I want to look at one of the unsung heroes of the Bible. His name was Caleb, and he never lost his edge spiritually. In his own words, he said, “I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then” (Joshua 14:11).

What makes that statement so significant is that Caleb was 85 years old when he said it!
What was the secret to Caleb’s spiritual longevity? Caleb wholly followed the Lord. If we want spiritual longevity, we must do the same. But this means giving 100 percent to God.

Often, when our lives are in trouble, we expect God to drop everything, run to us, and take care of our problems. Then when it comes to us doing our part for Him, it is amazing how busy we can be. My schedule is so full. I don’t have time for Bible study. I have tons of time for TV and reading magazines and talking on the cell phone, but I don’t have time for the Word of God. I don’t know if I have time to go to church this week, either.

If your heart is right with God, it will be shown in the way you spend your time. It will be shown in the way you live your life. If you are wholly following the Lord as Caleb did, then you will want to give God your best, not your leftovers. That was the secret to Caleb’s spiritual longevity.

Integrity

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

2 Timothy 2:22 "So turn away from youthful passions and pursue integrity, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord in purity of heart."

Comedian Red Allen, said, "You only live once. But if you work it right, once is enough." So, how can you work it right? By living by your convictions every day; do that, and you'll have few regrets. Living a life of integrity involves: (a) thinking regularly about your values and letting them soak in; (b) constantly measuring your choices against God's Word and whenever it's appropriate, talking about them. This not only cements your values, it also adds a level of safety and accountability.

We get into trouble when our convictions and our impulses collide. When everything's going our way it's not difficult to live by our convictions. But "where the rubber meets the road," is when those convictions demand that we do something that'll hurt or cost us!

Spiritual people do what's right, no matter how they feel about it. You don't feel your way into doing what's right; you act first, act scripturally, act consistently - your feelings follow suit. Usually it doesn't involve anything dramatic; the tough decisions are the everyday ones. Character is built like a wall, one brick at a time.

Nice guys may appear to finish last, but usually it's because they're running a different race. Running that race involves pausing regularly to examine your life and to pray with the Psalmist, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24).

Faith On Trial

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

1 Peter 4:12 "Do not be surprised, beloved, that a trial by fire is occurring in your midst. It is a test for you, but it should not catch you off guard."

We live in a 'here and now' generation; we're not programmed to delay gratification. And this has spilled over into the church. Instead of us setting the pattern for the world, now they're setting the pattern for us.

It's wrong to manipulate Scripture and distort truth just to inspire or excite people. Get this - God's not Santa Claus or your porter! It's not His job to give you everything you want, exactly when you want it! Sure, God's promised to bless us abundantly, but when you major only on "getting," by implication, you question the faith of those who may not have as much as you, and that's a mistake!

All the naming, claiming and declaring of God's Word doesn't mean you'll escape adversity. Who told you that anyway? Not God! His Word says, "Do not be surprised, beloved, that a trial by fire is occurring in your midst."

We're into microwaving, but God's into marinating! Nobody escapes His courtroom. Maturing takes place in the furnace of affliction; you'll never know how strong your faith is until you've been there. Besides, when you get to heaven and stand beside all those heroes who sacrificed their lives for their faith, how will you feel when all you can claim is that somebody said a harsh word to you, or that you were overlooked for a position on the church board?

Hebrews, Chapter 11, celebrates men and women whose faith was tried by fire, and despite their human frailties, God saluted every one of them. Like Job they each said, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him" (Job 13:15). Can you say that?

Trials

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

James 1:2 "My brothers, count it pure joy when you are involved in every sort of trial."

The Bible doesn't tell us to rejoice when we mess up and get into trouble. God can certainly use our mistakes to teach us, but that's not what James has in mind. Some of our trials just come from living. Things aren't going right. Usually it's not one big thing but a lot of little things. We encounter physical, financial, relational or emotional trials that knock us for a loop. Peter calls this "the trial of your faith" (1 Peter 1:7).

What's on trial? Your faith! Whatever the size or length of our trial, there's nowhere we can go to escape the trial of our faith. Trying to avoid it is like changing schools in hopes of avoiding a test you don't want to take. But the next school will have tests too, probably harder than the ones in the school you just left, and now you're that much further behind in your studies and preparation.

You can't out run God-ordained trials. He knows where to find you!

The good news is there's no such thing as a purposeless trial! Each trial is designed to launch us to a new Spiritual level. The interesting thing about our trials is they're custom made; they have our name on them.

Paul discovered two things about his trials: (a) The reason for the trial. "To keep me from becoming conceited" (2 Corinthians 12:7). (b) The result of the trial. "That Christ's power may rest on me" (2 Corinthians 12:9). Like a tailor measuring you for a suit that will fit perfectly, the Holy Spirit customizes the trials we encounter to meet our Spiritual need, to mold us, and to make us more like Jesus!

Plans For Tomorrow

From: Today God Is First - Os Hillman Ministries

James 4:14 "You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

A group of businesspeople meet at my office every week for fellowship, study, and prayer. One man attended our group for several years. Jim was well liked and in good health. One Thursday he showed up as usual. The next morning I received a call, "Jim is dead! He died in his easy chair last night!" Jim had no prior problems and there was no indication he was about to go be with the Lord. Naturally, it came as a shock to us all.

Whenever things like this happen close to home, it brings us face to face with our mortality. A friend of mine said he was challenged by someone to do an experiment. He challenged him to live his life for one year as if it were the last year he would live. He responded to the challenge and did as proposed. It changed his life forever. He began to focus on different priorities and people when he viewed life in these terms.

James gives us a perspective on viewing tomorrow.

"Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money'. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that'" (James 4:13-15).

Life is fragile. Consider where you are investing your time and energies. Someone once said they had never heard anyone on his deathbed say that he wished he had made more money in his lifetime or he wished he had made a certain deal. Usually it is something like, "I wish I had spent more time with my kids."Ask the Lord to give you His priorities for your life.

Be Still

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God."

Anxious soul, God is saying to you today, "Be still, and know that I am God." And there's a reason He's saying it. Your activity, when born out of anxiety, actually prevents Him from showing Himself strong on your behalf. That doesn't mean you're to be passive or lazy; it just means you're to do whatever He leads you to do without running ahead of Him in the energy of the flesh!

It also means you're to submit to Him first, then slow down and wait! In other words, make sure you have a sense of peace to go along with the ideas you believe He's given you. Ask Him to reveal to you His will in the matter, then "be still" and acknowledge that He's God, He's in charge, He knows what He's doing! Learn to trust Him without always demanding to know what He's going to do, when He's going to do it, and how He's going to carry it out.

Jesus said, "I am the vine, and you are the branches" (John 15:5). Until you really embrace those words you'll keep trying to do things that only God can do - like blessing yourself, promoting your own ministry, solving your own problems and answering your own prayers. Or worse, you'll try to cover up for Him because you think He's not doing it fast enough, or in the way it should be done.

Give it up! Try less and trust more! Jesus said, "I am the vine, and you are the branches." All you have to do is stay connected!

Without Wax

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

Philippians 1:10 "Be sincere...up to the very day of Christ."

The word sincere comes from a Latin word meaning "without wax". In the original Greek it means "sun-tested". In Bible times merchants sold very fine porcelain that was greatly valued and therefore expensive. Sometimes when it was fired in the kiln tiny cracks would appear. Dishonest merchants would smear pearly-white wax over these cracks, which would pass for unblemished porcelain - unless it was held up to the light of the sun. Honest merchants marked their wares sine cera - "without wax". That's a picture of genuine sincerity. No sham, no hypocrisy, no hidden cracks to be covered over.

You say, "How can I live this way?" By keeping your eyes on Christ, not Christians! Paul writes, "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (Ephesians 4:1). When Paul wrote this he was under house arrest in Rome, yet he didn't regard himself as a prisoner of the Romans. No, he was a prisoner of Jesus, a voluntary slave, totally in subjection to the Lord.

There's a metaphorical meaning to this word "prisoner". It can mean "binding as with a spell". Paul was literally captivated by Jesus Christ! He thought and talked about nothing else. He got up every morning determined to please Him. Some days he didn't do too well. We all have those days. But the next morning he was up and at it again, more determined and more committed than ever.

Paul's sincerity wasn't based on keeping certain religious rules or trying to look good. It was based on a deep love relationship with Christ: "Whatever we do, it is… because Christ's love controls us" (2 Corinthians 5:14).

God's Ways

From: Selwyn Hughes' "Every Day Light"

2 Corinthians 4:8 "We are afficted in every way possible, but we are not crushed; full of doubts, we never despair."

Our spiritual perplexities would never arise if we started out by being prepared not to understand immediately the things that God does or allows. We must accept that one of the fundamental principles of the Christian life is the truth that there will be many times when God will work things out in a manner exactly opposite to the way we think He should.

If I had been taught this in the early days of my Christian life, it would have saved me from many spiritual struggles. Most of my perplexities arose because I failed to realize that I was dealing with a mind that is omniscient - that God's mind is not like my mind. The ways of God are inscrutable; His mind is infinite and eternal and His purposes are beyond understanding.

When we are dealing with such a great and mighty God it should not surprise us that He allows things to happen which we find perplexing. If we insist that everything in life should be plain, we shall soon find ourselves in the state in which the psalmist found himself - full of doubt, disillusionment and fear.

We should note, however, that perplexity is not necessarily sinful. It only becomes wrong when we allow our perplexity to drive us to despair. The apostle Paul, as our text for today shows us, was perplexed but he was not in despair. Make sure you understand the distinction. It is not foolish or wrong to say: "I don't know what is happening." It is only foolish to say: "God doesn't know what is happening."

Leadership

From: The Word For Today - Bob Gass Ministries

Joshua 1:7 "Above all, be strong and very courageous."

In The Next Generation Leader, Andy Stanley gives us five things required of leaders. They're worth your careful consideration:

(1) Competence. Discern your dominant gifts. Channel your energies into where you're most likely to succeed. Humbly acknowledge your limitations and help equip others to fill them. To do that, you must first be secure in your own identity. Are you?

(2) Courage. Good leaders aren't necessarily the smartest, most creative people on the team, or even the first to identify an opportunity. No, they're just the ones with the courage to step out and to go first. That's why God told Joshua, "Above all, be strong and very courageous."

(3) Clarity. Uncertain times require clear directions. The vision may come at once, but the steps
are revealed over time. Don't allow your lack of answers to leave you paralysed. Be clear about your goal, even though you're not certain as to the details.

(4) Coaching. You may be better than most, but without a coach you will never be as good as you could be. Elisha needed Elijah. Timothy needed Paul. If you're hoping to learn everything from personal experience, good luck - you'll have to outlive Methuselah.

5) Character. You can lead without character, but you can't be a leader worth following. Character provides the moral authority necessary to bring together the people and resources needed to fulfil God's plan for your life. Your talent has the potential to take you places where your character can't sustain you. That thought ought to humble you - and keep you on your knees.

A Great Way To Start Your Day

From: Bryant Wright Ministries

Psalm 5:3 "In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch."

Are you a morning person or a night person? Because of commitments to work and school, my wife and I have to be up and going in the morning, but millions of people don't get going until about three o'clock in the afternoon. That's when their creative juices start flowing and when they really feel alive. For most of us, the day begins much earlier.

Even if you're a night owl, let me suggest a great way to start your day. The writer of Psalms knew the key: "In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice."

Doesn't it make sense to be in touch with the One who created the day? Why not begin your day by spending a few minutes alone with God each morning?

Study God's Word and share with Him through prayer your heart and your concerns. It will help get you in the right frame of mind. You'll find your day will start and finish a whole lot better.
