Psalm 14:1-2 "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" Such are corrupt; they do abominable deeds; there is not one who does good. The Lord looks down from Heaven upon the children of men, to see if there be one who is wise and seeks God."
It's Easter...and Christianity is under attack. What else is new? The cover of Newsweek says we are at "The End of Christian America." Are we?
President Obama tells Islamic Turkey that the United States is not a Christian nation: "One of the great strengths of the United States is that it does not consider itself a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values." What values would that be Mr. President?
The University of Maryland student council just voted to ban invocations at graduation ceremonies but welcomes pornographic films on campus. President Obama vows to expand the laws permitting the indiscriminate murder of over 3500 babies a day as soon as possible! Millions of Christians voted for Obama. Does Newsweek have a point?
Albert Mohler, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, wrote yesterday on his blog: "The controversy over the President's remarks in this context are misplaced. There is indeed a controversy over whether it is appropriate to call America a Christian nation in the sense that Americans would even make such a claim --but the context in Turkey and the Muslim world is very different. Do American Christians really believe that Christianity benefits by being associated with all that America represents in the Muslim world? To many Muslims, America appears as the great fountain of pornography, debased entertainments, abortion, and sexual revolution. Does it help our witness to Christ that all this would be associated in the Muslim mind with "Christian" America?"
Despite the "enemy's" recent worldly victories, true Christians know who ultimately wins the war that counts. Paul says we are engaged in Christian warfare and we must, "Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. Our battle is not against human forces but against the principalities and powers, the rulers of this world of darkness, the evil spirits in regions above. You must put on the armor of God if you are to resist on the evil day; do all that your duty requires and hold your ground." (Ephesians 6:11-13).
In this climate of social, political and economic turmoil, now is the time for all Christians (Catholic and Protestant) to come together in prayer: "If My people, upon whom My name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek My presence and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from Heaven and pardon their sins and revive their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Get involved...in addition to prayer, write your representatives at the State and National levels, encourage your Priests and Pastors to speak out against the secular attacks on our faith...and very important...encourage one another, the Christian faithful. We are all in this together. We need each other. "The eyes of the Lord roam over the whole earth, to encourage those who are devoted to Him wholeheartedly." (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Remember "God makes all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28).
Blessings,
Bobby
